The Ruth Glacier

We just got back from 12 days in Alaska. We took a cruise through the Inside Passage and then went to the interior of Alaska. One of the excursions in Talkeetna was a plane trip to one of the glaciers. The ride to the glacier was amazing. It was a clear night and we had spectacular views of the mountains surrounding Mt. McKinley. Mt McKinley is behind the mountain that you see in the picture. In the picture, we had just landed on Ruth Glacier. It really wasn't that cold. Being from Florida, we did have a little trouble walking in this white stuff. We will post a few other pictures later in the week.

  1. Hey Jim, is that an out-house on top of the hill between you and Sue?

  2. Yes it is an outhouse. There is a small cabin up there that you can rent for $125 a night plus airfare. There is no electric, no heat, no furniture, just a wood stove. You have to fly up there and bring ALL your supplies. Even if you were only staying one night you had to bring several days worth of food, water, and firewood in case the weather is too bad for them to come back up to get you. S
